Salem, OR – More than 2,500 athletes and their supporters from around the world are expected to be in Salem on Sunday, July 21, for the fourth annual IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon triathlon.

The sold-out event will take place beginning at 6 a.m. in Salem’s Riverfront Park and is expected to wrap up by 4:30 p.m.

The surrounding 70-mile racecourse will remain open to the public but significant crowds and limited downtown parking should be expected on race day. Several road closures are planned around Minto-Brown Island Park, Riverfront Park, and River Road South. Signs are posted in these areas warning drivers of the traffic impacts that may occur throughout the day. The Peter Courtney Pedestrian Bridge connecting Riverfront Park and Minto-Brown Island Park will be closed to the public on race day.

The one-day race consists of a 1.2-mile swim down the Willamette River from Minto-Brown Island Park to Riverfront Park, followed by a 56-mile bike ride south on River Rd. towards the Ankeny Natural Wildlife Refuge, and finishes with a 13.1-mile run from Riverfront Park through Minto-Brown Island Park and back.

IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon has been recognized as one of the best events in the global IRONMAN 70.3 Series of events after earning Top-3 honors in multiple categories of the Global Athletes’ Choice Awards, including Best Overall Run Experience in 2022.

Travel Salem and its partners in tourism, including the City of Salem, Travel Oregon, the Willamette Valley Visitors Association and Sport Oregon, are proud to host IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon, which is expected to generate approximately $11 million in economic impact for the Salem region.
