Creating a crowd favorite
Three years ago, Melissa Mason and her brother-in-law, Chef Samuel Woodward, had a dream to bring something different to downtown Salem. They dreamed of a restaurant that would provide crowd favorites with a nice atmosphere. Now they’re running Masonry Grill, opened in the remodeled Old Spaghetti Warehouse.
A little bit of everything
Chef Woodward has worked at Elephants Delicatessen, Il Fornaio, and Sal’s Famous Italian Kitchen in Portland over the last fifteen years. The menu is a taste of New American with a little bit of everything. Near the end of January, Masonry Grill will add deep dish pizza, calzones, a few more burgers and pastas, and will include gluten-free and vegetarian options.
The vision for Masonry Grill was to have a tap house-meets-wine bar atmosphere. They want the restaurant to be a great option for families, gatherings, and large celebrations, with something for everyone.
“Our goal is really to provide amazing food and quality customer service at a great value,” Mason shared.
“People have gone above and beyond”
Mason wants the Salem Community to know, “Thank you for embracing us and welcoming us into Salem. Thank you for the local support of the last two months – it’s been huge. Sometimes it can be challenging to park, but people have gone above and beyond to come try us out and have been good to us in terms of giving reviews and talking to us about things they love and things they think would be great for us.”
