The Chamber Business Women (CBW) Chair and Vice-Chair are individuals who exhibit the highest degree of professionalism and attitude that is positive, supportive, and respectful to all people. The role of the leadership for the program is to professionally represent and support the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce in an effort to improve member retention.

Vice-Chair:

The leadership path from a Vice-Chair for the program after one year of service, is to move into a one year service commitment as the Chair of the program.

Monthly Duties (roughly 2 hours per month, including participating in the monthly meeting):

  • Invite and encourage guests and members to attend the monthly meetings.
  • Solicit applications and schedule speakers: including the 5-minute spotlight speaker and the 30-minute featured speaker.
    • Applications for 30-minute featured speakers are to be submitted online through the Salem Chamber website @ https://salemchamber.org/get-involved/networking/speaker-application/. Applications are reviewed by the director of events and programs as they filter through the website and input into Smartsheet.
    • There is no need to submit a formal application for the 5-minute spotlight speaker. The only requirement is that all speakers are a current member of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce
  • Facilitate meetings in the absence of the Chair.
  • Organize the 50/50 business card drawing at the meetings. Complete the donation accounting sheet for the chosen charity of the year.

Chair Monthly Duties (roughly 1.5-2 hours per month, including participating in the monthly meeting):

  • Invite and encourage guests and members to attend the monthly meetings.
  • Solicit speakers to apply for openings on the calendar to share with the group.
  • Facilitate meetings and set the agenda. The current set agenda is as follows:
  • 11:45 – 12:00 early arrivers, speaker set-up, networking
  • 12:00 – 12:05 welcome and self-introductions (name and business) with option for announcements
  • 12:05 – 12:10 business spotlight/shameless plug – 5 min
  • 12:10 – 12:40 featured speaker โ€“ 30 min
  • 12:40 – 12:45 Q & A
  • 12:45 – 1:00 Prize drawing/ next meeting announcement, end of lunch
  • Contact speakers follow up with speakers 30 days prior to their schedule speaking date to remind them of their presentation. Request the following information: Short bio and a current headshot. Audio-visual is available for $25 (paid directly to the venue). Bio, headshot and audio-visual requirements must be provided to the Salem Chamber Director of events and programs no later than 14 business days prior to the scheduled meeting.

Yearly Duties

  • The primary duty of the Chair is to lead the program alongside the director of events and programs throughout the year.
  • Organize the selection of the charity to receive the funds at the end of the year.
  • Lead the planning of the annual Summer Social, typically held in July each year.
