On Monday, October 16, the 2023-2024 Forum Speaker Series continued with a presentation by Real Estate Broker Jordan Truitt (First Commercial Real Estate, and a fourth-generation member of Salem’s Truitt family) and developer Trent Michels (FuND) on the incredible potential of a real estate development project that could transform a currently vacant part of northeast Salem into a modern and vibrant urban hub.
Named “The Cannery” in honor of the site’s history, the project would redevelop 13 acres of riverfront property owned by the Truitt family, which also owned and operated the Truitt Bros. Cannery on Front Street for decades, employing as many as 800 Salem-area residents at a time.
Watch this Forum to learn more about the big-picture ideas about the project, the reasons Salem should rally around it in support, and what we’ll need to overcome as a community to make it happen.
The meeting also included the Salem Chamber’s Statement in Opposition to the Payroll Tax appearing on ballots in November (delivered by Director of Business Advocacy Lena Prine).
Join us for the next Forum Luncheon, “A Path to Healthy Forests in Oregon,” on November 13. To learn more, get your tickets, and see the remainder of the Forum Speaker Series schedule, click here.
We thank the Salem Convention Center for providing the venue and meal, and Allied Video Productions and Capital Community Media for their help with producing this event.
Finally, special thanks go to the Salem Business Journal for sponsoring this month’s Forum Luncheon, and to Hagan Hamilton Insurance Solutions for being the Presenting Sponsor of the entire 2023-2024 Forum Speaker Series season.
