Opening Fall 2024, Cascada includes exposed Mass Ply ceilings

LYONS, Ore. Sept. 17th, 2024Freres Engineered Wood‘s Mass Ply products are making their way into Portland’s luxury hotel scene this Fall. Cascada, Portland’s latest luxury hotel and spa, is opening soon and will feature Freres Engineered Wood’s innovative Mass Ply products. Thanks to a series of energy-efficient design choices, the state-of-the-art hybrid mass timber development will achieve LEED Platinum certification, the highest sustainability ranking available from the world’s most recognized green building rating system.

“We at Freres Engineered Wood care deeply about the environment, and respect for the forest and the wood it provides informs every aspect of our business, from harvesting and manufacturing procedures to product development,” says Tyler Freres, the company’s Vice President of Sales. “It’s an honor to contribute to so many recent, local projects like Cascada and the Port of Portland terminal and collaborate with builders, contractors and designers who value sustainability. We believe there is no better sustainable building product than wood.”

Cascada is joining Portland’s lively Alberta Arts neighborhood, occupying the block between 11th and 12th avenues on Northeast Alberta Street. LEVER Architecture, the building’s designer, focused on local and energy-efficient materials for the project to minimize environmental impact. These sustainable design choices include green roofs, solar panels, stormwater reuse, low-carbon concrete and of course locally sourced mass timber.

Cascada also features biophilic design elements as a means of connecting building occupants to nature and each other. This is especially notable in the building’s lobby and the second floor walkway to the spa reception, with exposed Mass Ply Panels overhead and a living green wall spanning two floors. The real estate developer, SolTerra, dubbed Cascada “a sanctuary where wellness and sustainability meet.”

Cascada features a three-story Spa and Fitness facility, including “Portland’s first underground thermal springs,” vitality pools, saunas and relaxation spaces. Cascada also offers 100 rooms, multiple dining & beverage options, workspaces and conference rooms. Visit cascada.me for more information.
