Look for the helpers – United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley

As an essential service provider, United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley is still working hard to support those people in our community who are most vulnerable. We are committed to working safely, operating in the office only two days per week and implementing protocols to keep our staff and those we serve as healthy and protected as possible.

 

Here’s what your United Way is doing to help:

 

• We’ve implemented a micro-grant program to nonprofits so they can help in the prevention of the spread of the virus. To date, we’ve sent out over 25 grants across all three counties.

• In one week we’ve put over 130 boxes of food out into the community for home-bound seniors, medically fragile individuals or families with food insecurity. We’ve been working with Center 50+, Salvation Army, Amazon Distribution Center, Safeway, and Grocery Outlet to make this a success. We expect to deliver over 2,000 boxes during this crisis as long as we have the resources to do so.

• With help from Amazon Distribution and using our Good360 inventory, we provided 25 boxes of basic needs items, and 180 boxes of snacks, alongside the meal distribution at 22 Salem-Keizer schools. Additionally, 8 boxes of baby items were given to the Teen Parent Program. Two of the students had just given birth and were in desperate need.

• Our women’s shelter, SafeSleep United, continues to serve 19 women per day and is taking extra precautions to sanitize surfaces and implement safety protocols for staff and volunteers.
