Graduation numbers continue to rise in SKPS, as rates released last week by the Oregon Department of Education show that eight in 10 students graduated in four years. Nearly 85 percent of students completed high school in four years, which includes students earning a regular diploma, GED or extended diploma.
The district graduation rate of 81.01 percent represents more than a nine-point gain since 2016. The most notable year-over-year gains were at North Salem High School and South Salem High School, where graduation rates increased by 7.27 points and 4.48 points respectively. North Salem High School has now surpassed the state average graduation rate.
Six of Salem-Keizer’s eight high schools are above the state average graduation rate of 82.63 percent, and one high school is within half a point of the state average.
“I am very proud of the class of 2020 and of all our educators for their relentless pursuit of helping students succeed,” said Superintendent Christy Perry. “The graduation rate of our historically underserved students has increased by more than 12 points over the past five years, affirming that our focus on equity is the right work. This significant achievement is even more remarkable in the midst of a global pandemic. I applaud the grit of our students and the commitment of our educators to get students across the graduation stage.”
