Salem, OR (April 21, 2020) – The Salvation Army has organized to support the increasing demand for childcare for first responders and healthcare personnel. On Monday, March 30, The Salvation Army started to provide FREE emergency childcare for first responders and healthcare personnel for children ages 4 to 12. The service has been made possible by the generous support of AT&T.

“Without you, I would not be employed at the moment. You guys are amazing in working with the kids and their routine. (https://www.genusinnovation.com) I feel at ease knowing my kids are in a safe place,” said Melanie who works at Santiam Memorial Hospital.

Childcare hours are available Monday – Friday from 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM. This service started on Monday, March 30. To register for Emergency Childcare please visit krocsalem.org.

“The Salvation Army is thankful for AT&T’s support to help provide childcare for our dedicated first responders and health care workers at no cost,” said Lieutenant Quinton Markham, The Salvation Army Marion & Polk Counties Coordinator.

“It’s so important that we support the families of our first responders and healthcare personnel as they care for our communities during this crisis,” said George Granger, AT&T Oregon president. “We are proud to assist the Salvation Army’s commitment to helping ensure childcare is accessible to the heroes performing essential services in the Salem community.”

Annie who works at Salem Hospital shared, “I am still able to work both my jobs and know that I do not have to worry about who is going to be caring for my child.”

As the country’s largest social service provider, The Salvation Army is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, including when in crisis. Right here in Oregon, The Salvation Army serving Marion and Polk Counties has increased food services to meet the growing need.
