Do you have ideas about how to make Downtown Salem’s sidewalks more inviting, exciting, or fun? We want to hear from you! Salem residents are invited to attend the second Downtown Salem Streetscape Design Plan Open House on Tuesday, February 13, 5:30–7 p.m. at the Senator Hearing Room/Courthouse Square, 555 Court St. NE. Attendees will view, discuss, and provide feedback on early concepts for improving Salem’s downtown experience. The concepts were developed from community input.
The first public open house for the Downtown Streetscape Plan was held November 30, 2017. At the first meeting, staff provided background for the project and listened to ideas from businesses and residents.
In 2016, streetscape improvements were identified as one of the top project priorities within the Riverfront-Downtown Urban Renewal Area during a series of 12 focus group meetings. More than 100 residents have shared their thoughts on how to make our downtown sidewalks more inviting, exciting, and fun.
Walker | Macy is the firm that was selected to lead community visioning and design efforts. Their experience in streetscape projects have been shown to enhance downtowns, and their project team consists of experienced professionals in the fields of landscape architecture/planning, civil engineering, transportation, public involvement, and economics.
