What is the Youth Leadership Project?
The Youth Leadership Project (YLP) is a two-year leadership development program designed for motivated high school students who want to learn how Salem works—from business and government to nonprofits and community leadership.
Modeled after the award-winning Leadership Salem program, YLP offers students a rare opportunity to engage directly with Salem’s diverse and vibrant professional community.
What You'll Do:
Monthly, daylong themed program days featuring:
- Industry and community leaders
- Leadership skillbuilding and professional development
- Teambuilding experiences
- Tours of local businesses, nonprofits, and landmark sites
Year Two: Real-World Leadership
During the second year, participants:
- Serve on the board of a local nonprofit
- Choose from 25 nonprofit organizations
- Gain hands-on experience in governance, community service, and civic leadership
