At our monthly Business Advocacy Meeting on January 8, 2026, a panel of local leaders and experts shared key updates on several issues impacting the small business community.
First, State Representative Tom Andersen (HD19) discussed two bills he’s spearheading as state lawmakers prepare for the 2026 Legislative Short Session.
Preston Mann, Director of External Affairs at Oregon Business & Industry, then talked about the Local Control & Safety Act, an Initiative Petition that would repeal HB 3115, which is legislation that created additional state restrictions on the enforcement of local public camping ordinances.
Next, Salem Fire Chief David Gerboth and Deputy Fire Marshal Jordan Wakem walked us through the plan to conduct fire inspections at local businesses in order to comply with the State Fire Marshal requirements.
Finally, staff members from the City of Salem provided an update on the status of the upcoming State Street Improvement Project, including the scope and timeline of work.
