The impact that large businesses have on small communities should never be overlooked. When big box stores come into cities and constantly look for ways to give back and help the community, it can make a huge difference.

One business that has done just that is Office Depot. I had the opportunity to sit down with the General Manager, Marissa Cherepanov and talked about the different ways her and her team at the Lancaster Office Depot are engaging in our local community and helping make a positive impact on Salem. She informed me of the many different engagement opportunities Office Depot has on the horizon for Salem, focusing directly on our kids and education system.

“By next Friday, June 26th, we will be fully set and prepped for the back to school season, offering bulk buys and teacher discounts.” Stated Marissa. “We have two donation programs during Back to School: one called “Start Proud” which is 15 pre-selected low-income markets, and the second is Back to School Donations for all other locations. The Salem school we have chosen is Schirle Elementary, which will receive a donation check at the end of September. Both donation drives finalize on 9/26/2020.” Last year, Office Depot/Office Max raised over $1 Million for Title 1 Schools here in Oregon.

Another way that Office Depot is gives back to the community is by hosting their annual Teacher Breakfast on Saturday August 22, 2020, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Participating teachers receive 20% off of their entire purchase that day.

Along with actively doing their part in helping our teachers, students, and other important aspects of our local education system, Office Depot has also come up with a number of ways to help our business community during these unique times.

“We are focused on getting small and large businesses up and running after Covid-19.  Our store offers counter shields, face masks, hand sanitizer, TP, tissue, and basically anything else related to PPE (Personal Protection Equipment). Our location is fully stocked and ready to help you get your business back out there. In addition, we offer customized designs done by our offsite professional graphics team for things like menus or ‘open for business’ banners. Marissa could not express enough how willing her, and her team are as a company to help the community; “It is our purpose and passion to ensure our business community thrives!”
