Chemeketa graduates small business management classes

Salem, Ore., May 3, 2018— Chemeketa Community College honored participants in its Small Business Management program at the Center for Business & Industry May 3. Businesses in this year’s program increased sales by nearly $8 million in 2017-18 and created 98 new jobs.

Sixty-one businesses enrolled in 2017-18 with over 81 owners and key employees participating. Participants came from a dozen business categories ranging from the arts to technology in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties.

They learned to sharpen their cost accounting pencils and swagger their new marketing savvy. Many appreciated the help they got with business nitty-gritty.

“My books were a mess,” said Ryan Sims of The Oregon Woodsman tree service. “The money was coming in and going out. I finally got my books in order and that was a huge stress reliever.”

Knowing that other small business owners shared the same problems was a common theme among the participants as well as the availability of program counselors.

“I appreciate the support,” said Dr. Zohra Campbell-Bolduc owner of Indigo Wellness Center. “We can’t be a wellness place if everyone is stressed out about the business.
