Retired non-profit leader, city volunteer, 2022 Salem mayoral candidate, and all-around Salem champion Chane Griggs will be named Salem’s First Citizen for 2023 at the First Citizen Awards Banquet on Saturday, April 8.

For those unsure of what true servant leadership looks like in action, look to Chane Griggs as your perfect example.
Following a successful career that included positions at the Oregon Legislature, Department of Administrative Services, and Department of Corrections, Chane concluded her professional career serving our state as a Regional Director for the Oregon Community Foundation.
But Chane’s service has always extended far beyond her professional life, as she has humbly, graciously, and selflessly volunteered and led several non-profit and city boards. Her volunteer roles have included serving as President of the Rotary Club of Salem, President of the Salem Planning Commission, a member of the Climate Action Task Force for the City of Salem, a board member of the Oregon State Capitol Foundation, and as a member of the Salem Public Arts Commission.
Chane’s deep involvement and volunteer spirit led her to a run for Salem Mayor in 2022, where she showcased a thoughtful and engaging campaign in the hopes of representing Salemites on City Council as a first-time candidate. Chane continues to deploy her skills of fiscally-responsible leadership in each of her vast volunteer efforts on behalf of Salem residents.
