ABOUT THE BEE
The Oregon Civics Bee is presented by US Bank and brought to you by Oregon Business & Industry in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. This first-of-its-kind civics competition in Oregon encourages young people to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Participating 6th, 7th and 8th graders will flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. The winner of the Oregon Civics Bee will be invited to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Civics Bee national championship in fall 2024.
HOW TO ENTER
Any 6th, 7th or 8th grade student living in Oregon with an idea about using civics to improve their community may review the rules and submit an essay application using the portal below, which will open during the application period.
The application period opens Nov. 13, 2023, and closes Jan. 22, 2024. A panel of judges will review essays and choose 20 applicants to compete at the Oregon Civics Bee, a live event that will be held on May 30, 2024, in Willamette University’s Hudson Hall.
The top three finishers at the Oregon Civics Bee will receive a cash prize. First place will receive $1,000, second place $750 and third place $500.
Oregon Business & Industry is participating in the National Civics Bee because we believe that informed and active citizens make for a strong country, a strong economy and a strong workforce. We also believe that our continued prosperity depends on the strength of all three. Through the Oregon Civics Bee, we are promoting greater civic knowledge in Oregon and celebrating our civic pride.
