Salem City Club, a biweekly gathering of more than 100 members, will meet March 8 at the Willamette Heritage Center to discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).
In 1937, the Bonneville Power Administration was created by an act of Congress to market electric power generated by the Bonneville Dam. BPA is a big player in Oregon, supplying much of the electricity consumed in the state.
At the March 8 program, Representatives from the BPA will discuss the opportunities and challenges faced when operating the 31 federal hydroelectric power dams that provide electricity in the Pacific Northwest. They will discuss their plans to provide reliable power while protecting fish and wildlife, responding to global warming and maintaining financial and operational stability.
The meeting will take place Friday, March 8, at 12 p.m. at the Willamette Heritage Center at 1313 Mill Street St. SE. Members are free. Non-members pay $10. All have the option to purchase lunch for $20. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. Register online at SalemCityClub.com.
