Travel Salem Seeking Next “Cover Dog” for Official Salem Area Visitor Guide
Salem, Oregon — Travel Salem, the official destination marketing organization for Salem and Marion and Polk Counties, is excited to announce its Visitor Guide Cover Dog Contest, inviting dog owners in Marion or Polk Counties to showcase their canine companions for a chance to be featured on the cover of the 2027-28 Travel Salem Visitor Guide. The annual publication serves as the official guide for things to see and do in the Salem area. The contest offers a fun way to spotlight a local canine community member while promoting Salem as a pet-friendly destination.
Eligibility Requirements
The contest is open to residents of Marion or Polk County, Oregon, who are at least 18 years old. Dogs must reside with the entrant within the eligible counties, and only one entry per dog is permitted.
How to Enter
Participants are required to submit one original video, 30 to 60 seconds in length, featuring themselves interacting with their dog. Videos should highlight the dog’s personality and explain why they would make the perfect cover star for the guide. All entries must be received by May 12, 2026, at 11:59 PM (local time). Late submissions will not be accepted.
Judging Process
Entries will be evaluated based on the dog’s personality and alignment with the Travel Salem brand. Ideal canine candidates are friendly with people and other animals, well-behaved, able to follow basic commands (i.e., sit, stay, down), and enthusiastic about exploring the Marion and Polk County region.
A panel designated by Travel Salem will review submissions and select finalists. Finalists will be invited to participate in an in-person meet-and-greet following the submission deadline, and the winner will be selected after the final round. A winner will be announced on Travel Salem’s Instagram and Facebook accounts by June 30, 2026.
